Moving the World Towards an Active Future

With over 1.8 billion adults worldwide currently physically inactive, which is a crisis projected to cost over $300 billion annually by 2030, the sporting goods industry has a critical role to play in reversing the trend.

As a leading member of the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI), Decathlon is a strong actor of the industry's collective effort to help more and more people move throughout the world. The WFSGI's first-ever Sporting Goods Physical Activity Impact Report (see the report here) highlights the industry's key initiatives to drive change. This report was presented at an exclusive World Health Assembly side-event in Geneva this week, with the presence of many global organizations present, such as WHO, UNICEF and Ministers of Health.

Among the standout examples: Decathlon’s commitment during the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Our Playground in northern Paris welcomed over 200,000 visitors, offering free sport experiences, athlete meet-and-greets, and live concerts—bringing sport closer to all. The Paris 2024 x Decathlon capsule collection also resonated strongly with youth, embodying Olympic values and inspiring a more active generation.

Beyond events, Decathlon pioneers inclusivity with its adaptive sportswear, designed for people with reduced mobility or disabilities. It also promotes daily movement internally embedding physical activity into its workplace culture and human fundamentals.

At Decathlon, we believe sport changes lives. By innovating and removing barriers to access, we aim to make movement more inclusive and drive healthier futures for all.
