Eco-design, innovation and technical sophistication, these are the watchwords that govern our Spring-Summer 2022 collections, not forgetting, of course, affordability - our guiding principle. Our promise this year, and for future years, is to help hikers, campers and trekkers explore the world - whether it's their garden or local region - using the best possible products, while reducing their impact on our planet. Check out Quechua and Forclaz's new products, designed for all those who want to spend as much time as possible in the middle of nature!

Quechua x Forclaz

Quechua and Forclaz,
different activities
but shared values!

Quechua and Forclaz - nestled at the foot of Mont-Blanc, ideally located for all practical purposes, close to trekking and hiking trails - work side by side to develop mountain products that are increasingly innovative, accessible and sustainable.

Whether you're hiking for just a couple of hours or going on a multi-day trek, Decathlon's outdoor brands enable everyone to get away, find their own rhythm, and feel at one with nature. Which is why Quechua and Forclaz seek to offer increasingly technical products so that nature lovers can enjoy moments of freedom and discovery, whether it's a stone's throw from their home, in the mountains, on snowy ridges or in a completely new environment.

Each brand works on product benefits specific to their activities: Quechua specializes in instantaneous and easy-to-use products, for hikers setting out on day trips, while Forclaz works on durable, light-weight equipment for self-sufficient trekkers.

Day hiking - an area covered by Quechua - can be enjoyed in both summer and winter, thanks to the development of products designed for walking on trails, snow hiking and fast hiking. But Quechua also offers products to help you set up camp so you can enjoy a comfortable, rejuvenating holiday surrounded by nature.

Multi-day trekking - one of Forclaz's specialist areas - also encompasses several activities, all of which involve exploration and self-sufficiency: bivouacking and self-sufficient trekking on mountain trails, and tour trekking for backpackers, alternating between days spent in town and outdoors. But it also includes activities in more extreme environments requiring very specific products: desert, tropical or Arctic trekking.

Protecting their playground

Quechua and Forclaz share the same sporting playground, an environment which is now more under threat than ever. Which is why Decathlon's outdoor brands are both committed to doing their utmost to protect the mountains by focusing on:

  • L'écoconception

    Repairability

by making product spare parts available and setting up Decathlon workshops to facilitate repairs.

By 2026, Decathlon brands aim to produce all their products in a more sustainable way. A challenge that inspires our teams, on a daily basis, motivating them to find more sustainable components and more innovative manufacturing techniques.

Innovation
at the heart
of our products

Innovation is written into the DNA of Decathlon's mountain brands: the know-how of our designers combined with our teams' passion for the mountain and customer care are just some of the brands' many strengths.
There's obviously the launch of the first 2 Seconds tent in 2005, which helped revolutionise camping and position Quechua as a market leader. Since then, our hiking and trekking brands have continued to develop new technologies, from manufacturing processes to components, offering hikers and campers greater comfort and convenience; here are a few examples:

“Fresh & Black” Technology

“Fresh & Black” Technology

A combination of innovative fabrics that naturally regulate the temperature and brightness inside the tent, keeping it cool and dark, even in the middle of the day.

The 2 Seconds EASY tent

The 2 Seconds EASY tent

This product, designed in 2020, some 15 years after the launch of the first "2 Seconds" model, makes camping even easier thanks to its compact size, user-friendly and instant fold-down design!

The DYNOVATION concept

The DYNOVATION concept

A dynamo that's easy to recharge and use as a head torch to facilitate autonomous trekking.

The AIR SECONDS technology

The AIR SECONDS technology

Inflating a mattress in just 1 minute is now possible thanks to this special valve which increases the air supply from the pump ten fold.

The AIR concept

The AIR concept

A backpack, ventilated at the back by taut mesh fabric, encouraging the flow of air between the bag and the traveller's back, helping prevent a sweaty back at the end of the day.

Designing hiking and camping products isn't just about applying new technologies. Our R&D teams work together at every stage of product development, studying the body in motion, testing components and industrial processes out in the field, and getting feedback from sportsmen and women.
The products are tested in the laboratory simulating real-life conditions, using, for example shower tests to assess the waterproof properties of jackets or wind tunnels to check that the tents are resistant to wind.
Field-testing is also a requirement - a process that involves Quechua and Forclaz teams, together with testers (partners, ambassadors and customers) trying out their products in all the conditions that hikers and trekkers would normally encounter!
